What Makes Cadet Green?

Conserve energy, improve comfort

Zonal electric heat is an energy-saving alternative to heating an entire home or office when only one or two rooms are being used. By heating only the areas in use, you can reduce your heating bill AND conserve energy while enjoying ultimate comfort. By reducing the amount of energy you consume, you not only reduce your monthly utility bill, but also the amount of greenhouse gas emissions. Install Cadet’s zonal heaters throughout your home as the primary heat source or supplement your central heating system with low wattage in-wall fan heaters.

Cadet heaters are energy efficient

Our wide range of in-wall electric fan heaters and baseboards are extremely efficient. Nearly 100% of the electricity consumed is directly converted to heat. Many older gas-heating furnaces have AFUE ratings as low as 65% - which means for every dollar you pay for heating, only 65 cents actually go towards heating your home. The remaining 35 cents escape as hot vapor. Although gas furnaces are becoming more efficient, AFUE ratings do not account for heat lost in the duct system, which can account for 15% of heat lossa. With Cadet heaters, no heat is lost through ductwork or exhaust like central gas systems, which means every dollar spent on heating goes towards heating your home- no energy is wasted.

Energy savings with zonal electric heat

Zonal electric heat can reduce energy consumption in a house by up to 30%b. In 2001, the average annual BTU’s required to heat a single family home with electricity required 14.2 million BTU’sc. The average annual BTU’s required to heat a single family home with gas required 61.1 million BTU’sc. Less efficient gas systems require more heat and more energy to warm a home to the same comfort level as homes heated with electricity.

The less energy we use in our homes, the less air pollution we generate and the more we save on monthly bills. When only a single room needs heating, Cadet heaters burn less energy than a whole-house furnace.

Example. A 1000-Watt Register™ Plus heater costs approximately $0.0945 per hour to operate1. To heat a single room with a central heating system, it can cost up to $1.28 per hour for a 2000 square foot home2,3. That’s nearly 14 times the cost of using a single Cadet in-wall fan heater! Why heat rooms that you’re not using?

Central heating systems are like having one light switch for the whole house, “On or Off”. Cadet’s zonal heaters give you the flexibility and control to heat only the rooms you are using, reducing the amount of energy needed to maintain a comfortable living space. While our energy efficient Cadet heater produces 3,412 BTU’s per hour, a central gas system sized for a 2000 square foot home3 produces an overwhelming 34,992 BTU’s4, no matter which rooms you’re using. If you’re only using one or two rooms, a central system wastes energy and costs much more to operate.

Renewable Energy: Electricity

Electricity is among the only forms of energy that can use clean, renewable resources for generation, such as hydropower, wind power, and solar energy. Renewable sources of electricity generation are readily available, produce little waste, and minimize pollution to the air or water. The demand for clean sources of energy is growing rapidly across the U.S. as people become more aware of the benefits.

As renewable energy becomes a bigger part of electricity generation in the U.S., Green energy will be more readily available for heating homes, and electrically heated homes will play a bigger role in energy conservation. Many utilities now offer Green Pricing options. Green pricing is an optional utility service that allows customers an opportunity to support a greater level of utility company investment in renewable energy technologies. Participating customers pay a premium on their electric bills to cover the incremental cost of the additional renewable energy.
